California Snap Benefits can be received if you apply for them through the CalFresh program and you qualify. California Snap Benefits can be used to purchase plants to grow food in your household, to purchase seeds, and to buy foods at stores and local markets. You cannot use California Snap Benefits to buy any food that has to be heated or eaten in the store. You also cannot use the benefits to buy medicine, vitamins, tobacco, alcoholic products, cosmetics, household supplies, grooming products, paper products, soaps, pet food, or nonfood items. However, there are certain restaurants in various counties throughout the state that offer meal programs that can be paid for with California Snap Benefits.
California Snap Benefits are offered to those individuals and families that have a low income or no income. The amount that you are eligible to receive will vary depending upon the number of people in your family, your income, your expenses, and whether or not you meet federal poverty guidelines. Usually, families receive up to $200.00 each month in food stamp assistance, but the actual figure varies greatly from household to household.

The latter program is a state funded program available to noncitizens residing in the United States deemed ineligible for the CalFresh program because of their immigration status.
